Rumors are growing that Apple is preparing to use touchscreen technology in MacBook Pros. Recent reports indicate that these plans are progressing through the supply chain, and that the OLED MacBook Pro, expected to enter production in late 2026, will feature a touchscreen panel. Here are the details.
May Be Available in Next-Generation MacBook Pros
Given the current M4 MacBook Pro lineup, a touchscreen OLED model is expected to arrive in two generations. First, we’ll likely see a new series with M5 processors early next year. The next revision will likely be a redesigned OLED MacBook Pro powered by M6 chips.
The arrival of touchscreens on Macs brings the MacBook closer to the iPad than ever before in terms of functionality. Apple’s recent software integration across platforms also supports this trend. For example, the Tahoe shares many interface elements with iPadOS 26.
Of course, touchscreens have long been common on Windows laptops. Some users find it more convenient to scroll and zoom in on documents or web pages using touch. Younger generations, especially those growing up in the iPhone and iPad world, expect touch to work everywhere and may be surprised to find Mac screens lack touch sensitivity.
According to Kuo, Apple is considering adding a touchscreen to the second-generation version of its new affordable MacBook, which will run on the A-series processors found in the iPhone, following the launch of the OLED MacBook Pro. This could signal that touchscreens could eventually come to the MacBook Air lineup.
